Want to serve internationally this summer?
One Missions Students wants to help you as you are seeking to be obedient to God’s call to serve the nations this summer! Applying to serve internationally through One Mission Students qualifies you for up to 30% of your total field costs and transportation (but no more than $1,500) in financial assistance if your project is 3 weeks or longer and you complete all requirements listed below. Financial assistance is also based on the amount of fundraising assistance you provide in your local BCM. If you’re considering service internationally – get your passport today! You must have applied for a passport to be appointed for international service.
One Mission Students must be:
- Maturing Christians
- Active in an Alabama BCM or Alabama Baptist Church
- Be of good physical and emotional health
- Participate in personal evangelism on your college campus
- Students must refrain from any use of alcohol, tobacco, pornography, sexual contact outside of marriage, and/or any other activity that will call into question your integrity or hinder one’s witness for Christ.
- Completed one semester of college
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
- You must also attend Missions Prep Weekend, April 12-13, 2019 at Hargis Retreat Center in Chelsea, Ala. This weekend will provide you with information about your service opportunity this summer and training in evangelism, safety, and security.
- You must also complete two report forms as you serve throughout the summer.
As a state, we are adopting the following International Mission Board (IMB) Teams. Below this listing of specific projects that One Mission Student is helping fill. The prices listed on the projects in the first grouping below is a flat rate for students serving through One Mission Students. This one cost covers all expenses. In the second grouping and at the IMB link listed below, those projects will be supplemented by up to 30% based on your need. Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions.
Cambodia – May 30–August 1, $2200, Teach English to elementary & high school students, tutor or teach music (guitar, piano or voice), train other teachers in children’s ministry (by doing it with them & letting them learn alongside you), teach art, play soccer or other sports. All of these will give you an entry point to build relationships and open doors to share the Gospel.
Colombia – May 25–July 18, $2000, Invest your summer sharing the hope of Jesus with Venezuelans fleeing the devastation in their country. Serve alongside Colombian and US volunteers to support 3 different way stations along the 130-mile highway in Colombia where hundreds of Venezuelans walk each day in search of hope. The way stations will provide basics like food, water, temporary shelter, and clothing to prepare them for the 10,000-foot mountain pass. Most importantly, you will share the hope of Jesus through Bible stories. Students need to be at least 20 years old and be able to speak an intermediate amount of Spanish.
Chiapas, México – May 27–July 18, $1250, Invest your summer to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. Join our church planting team and hike the mountainous terrain of Southern Mexico to tell an unreached people about Jesus! We need young people who are adventurous, energetic, motivated, outgoing, and spontaneous to hike into the remote mountainous villages of unreached people groups. You will share Bible stories while investigating worldview issues of a small indigenous group. When not hiking into remote areas, there are ample opportunities to interact with locals through evangelism and discipleship! Your gifting and talents can open doors! Allow God to use you for His Kingdom!
Mexico City – May 27–July 18, $1500, Invest your summer to make disciples of Jesus among Mexico City’s vast and diverse population. You will serve alongside Mexican church planters and ministry leaders in various evangelism and discipleship activities that may include teaching English, prayer walking and VBS. You will serve alongside national believers in ministry to the “least of these”; such as orphans, prisoners, elderly and the poor. You will research university campuses and ethnolinguistic groups to aid the Mexico City team in engaging unreached peoples and places. You will collect information conversationally or through surveys at markets, parks, coffee shops, and other gathering places.
Philippines – May 30–August 1, $2000, In the western Philippines there are many remote islands where there are very few believers. People feel like castaways: isolated and disconnected. Slow down for the summer, make friends, learn the culture, share LIFE.
Philippines – May 30–August 1, $2000, In an area where the Gospel has been skewed & distorted and is now nearly unrecognizable, you will be sharing Truth with many who have never heard it told correctly. Work alongside local believers to share Biblical truth with people who have never owned a Bible or read it for themselves. With the goal of making disciples & the hopes of planting a church, you will be a part of a greater team effort to reach the lost of Tubajon by going into less-accessible areas via motorbike, boat & on foot.
Romania – May 30–August 1, $2000, If you can speak English, you can help us share the Gospel & plant churches. By teaching very simple English words & phrases to children & youth you are helping with their education while opening doors to engage their families with the Gospel.
South Africa – May 30–August 1, $2500, The main job will be as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher among adult Muslims. Through your role as a teacher, you will meet many Muslims, build relationships with them, and have opportunities to share the gospel with them, their friends, and their families. It is our desire that you enter this situation as an open learner, willing to hear about their culture, faith, and language. At the same time, you are learning about their faith, you can seek opportunities to share yours.
South Asia – May 23–July 26, $2600, Make the gospel for real, one slum village at a time! Be a strategic frontliner sharing the gospel. Meet basic physical, educational and spiritual needs. Strengthen local believers’ evangelism methods. You can make a difference!
South Asia/Korea – May 30–August 1, $2000, The strongest power of the gospel is the Kinship of Jesus’ love beyond every barrier between humans. Students will experience multi-cultural missions in Korea and South Asia. They will teach English to children and teenagers in Korea for the first month and then move to South Asia with their Korean teammates where they will be involved in various ministries such as: teaching English and Korean, worship dances, playing musical instruments & one on one evangelism. It would be helpful if the students have training/experience teaching English. Team members must commit to the entire program from orientation through debrief.
Southeast Asia – May 30–August 1, $2000, The team will work a new region that has very little opportunity to hear the Gospel. This country is less than 1% evangelical Christians. There are large areas and communities without a credible Gospel witness. Your team will be sent into this area to build relationships and give a verbal witness as well as demonstrate a living witness. This country doesn’t allow evangelism, missions trips or missionaries. You will be tourists seeking to understand the culture and enjoy the natural beauty. You will operate very independently from long-term personnel for security reasons. You will be gathering data for long-term personnel and national partners about the local communities and places of “light” and “darkness,” names of seekers and believers, and making an assessment of the communities receptivity to the Gospel.
Thailand – May 30–August 1, $2200, With a partner you will teach classes in local universities & vocational colleges. These English classes are a fun & engaging way for you to meet an important need in Bangkok while building relationships & sharing the Gospel. *Girls Only
Uganda – May 30–August 1, $2000, Have the full Karamajong Bush experience. Join a team of bush missionaries who are willing to go out & do whatever it takes to take the Gospel into some very difficult places & peoples. Learn to use Chronological Bible Storying to evangelize & disciple. Also be involved in a simple organic church. We have the unique opportunity to live among & do life with the people of Karamoja on a daily basis. Some days are difficult, but the great days make the difficult ones worth it.
