“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 (HCSB)
One Mission... Go and Make Disciples
What is MY one mission?
Have you ever asked yourself that question? The answer to that question just may change everything. Your life may never be the same. Most of us walk through life with no purpose, no goal, nothing bigger than us to strive for or head toward. Real living is this: having one mission and giving your life to its fulfillment. Sound exciting? It is!
Having one mission turns ordinary living into an extraordinary adventure. Every moment is an opportunity to pursue that mission and live life to its fullest. It helps to have a singular mission or clear focus in life. It helps us know where to go, what to do and why to do it. It charts our course, sets the direction of our life and provides guidance to all that we do. Your one mission is your one thing—the thing that defines what your life will be about!
As a follower of Jesus Christ your one mission is clear: The Great Commission—Go and Make Disciples! One Mission Students seeks to encourage Alabama college students to discover this one mission, mobilize them to live out this mission among the nations and help them consider how this one mission impacts the rest of their life.
Who are One Mission Students?
They are students who have embraced the mission to “Go and Make Disciples” and are giving a few weeks, an entire summer, a semester or even longer living out that mission. One Mission Students serve in North America and around the world in partnership with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, the North American Mission Board (NAMB) and the International Mission Board (IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention. One Mission Students serve alongside career missionaries, pastors and other church leaders. Financial assistance is available based on location of service and length of service. One Mission Students can serve among the nations in three different types of experiences:
- IMPACT Teams (Short-term experiences) – These are intense team-oriented and campus minister-led mission experiences that may last 1 – 4 weeks. They will include elements of service, ministry, evangelism, and spiritual growth. They are designed to mobilize the student to have an eternal Kingdom impact in a short period of time. We have state team missions experiences during the summer and Christmas breaks.
- Summer Missions – Summer missions allows students to have a longer experience on the mission field. One Mission Students will serve 3-10 weeks doing ministry and intentional evangelism. These students will be supervised by a local ministry leader and may serve alone, with a partner or with a larger team.
- Beyond Summer – Opportunities exist that allow students to serve for a semester in North America or internationally. They can serve in selected international or North American fields through NAMB or IMB’s semester missions programs. Students can learn more about a special initiative to give two years of service after college through NAMB or IMB at https://www.go2years.net/.
